The Choirmaster Lark

16 July 2008

So here we steer around the things we want to do
feign right, then run right past the time we love
with no thought and no heart, our souls are held by One above
defending us from lack of common sense

Lift up your cup, you hear the message clear
the ash flesh redundant; new-born blood
in veins of value rise real reign of God
and give worship in now-life; He is here.

The Sentencing of the Innocents

25 June 2008 [minor edit 3Oct08]

Stand trial, you innocents,
for we need to know the truth.
It seems that your wholes
have become void in the now.

Truth has now filled the cup,
and where are you?
What grounds do you have
for inclusion in the files?

Are you a traitor or hailer
on a soapbox, mistaken, unlearned,
shouting about things you know not,
instead of asking the wise?

Each of you must be tested
to see if you will pass through fire.
Bring forward your evidence
and I will try you for treason.

This poem is not chosen as the best of a selection, but the message of it marks my reflection on an old life and the evidence thereof, which cannot evidence new life but for the contrast with new evidence. It was recently accepted into the Christian Poetry Association's anthology "Journey of Faith", which is to be published in March next year.

So, for that reason, I felt it pertinent to share this particular poem to start off a very quiet blog that will only see an occasional selection, not necessarily my best, but whatever selection God leads me to share as He sees fit for His purpose. Praise Him, He is faithful and good.

(note: the poem is not about people, it's about poems - cf. Hopkins' slaughter of the innocents.)
